Strawberry Tree

Mountain Panther

ok, so now its got colder he's less of a mountain panther than a hibernating lump under the duvet.
At dusk, when the noise of power tools and general work has died down, and we sit down, he will emerge. Licking a bit, sitting on laps a bit, and then having a good old sniff round to see whats changed since he last appeared.
Then he'll pop off through the cat door (wheel flap of the awning) for a bit, then return for a biscuit or two.

Flying thingee

to be id'd when insect ID book arrives!
was climbing around the fire rocks, i got it on a lid and tried to take pics but it kept moving away from the light, when i took it outside it flew away.
pointy tail bit.

Final Leg

We wake up in a sunny but empty field by the side of the road. Both our phones have run out of power so we don't know teh time!
10am says Rocky. Quick breakfast at the next truckstop cafe.
Menú de Día...
3 courses, bread, wine, water €9
Truckers breakfast:
ham & eggs, bread, wine, water €4.50

its 10.30 and we see some truckers finishing their breakfast, with wine. They have coffee, with brandy in!

beetle with long attenae

to be identified when my insect ID book arrives!

One was sitting on the mosquito net, but another was running round in the annexe.

Bees

I think they are honey bee's from the neighbouring empty lands, well empty of people, they have bee hives in groups of about 20.

They hum lightly, unlike the wasps which are noisy and annoying. The bees seem keen to drink our water, even if it means they end up drowning in buckets! I think around here they don't often get more than a dribble of water. But actually I didn't realise they liked water so much!

Thyme

yummy herb

Rosemary

lovely herb

Gorse

Gorse bushes, horrible and spikey, dry sparky wood, but cute yellow flowers and the Bee's love it!

Holm Oak

yup, in this spiky land, we get the spiky oak.
smallish trees, knarley trunks. Smaller bush plants have shiny green leaves, which go slightly bluer and duller when bigger.
Acorns.

from wikipedia:
The wood is hard and tough, used since ancient times for general construction purposes as pillars, tools, wagons, vessels, and wine casks. Used as well as firewood, or in charcoal manufacture.
The Holm Oak is one of the top three trees used in the establishment of truffle orchards, or truffieres. Truffles grow in an ectomycorrhizal association with the tree's roots.
The acorns, like those of the Cork Oak, are edible (toasted or as a flour), and are an important food for free-range pigs reared for serrano ham production. Boiled in water, the acorns can also be used as a medicinal treatment for injury dis-infections.
It can be clipped to form a tall hedge, and it is suitable for coastal windbreaks, in any well drained soil. It forms a picturesque rounded head, with pendulous low-hanging branches. Its size and solid evergreen character gives it an imposing architectural presence that makes it valuable in many urban and garden settings. While Holm Oak can be grown in much of maritime northwestern Europe, it is not tolerant of cold continental winters.

Pine Tree

not sure what kind!

i'm thinking maybe Aleppo or Maritime.

I was hoping could grow pine trees for pine nuts, but the ones that have the good pine nuts like a mild winter, which i don't think It is up here!
